Some student leaders hijacked July-August movement discarding BNP’s contribution: Khasru

The July-August movement was hijacked by certain student leaders by discarding contributions of the BNP, the party's Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has claimed.
"During the movement, the highest number of BNP leaders and activists lost their lives or were imprisoned, with many still suffering in hospitals," he said while speaking at a rally organised by Brahmanbaria district BNP at Mukto Moncho in the district.
The rally was part of a central programme calling for price control, improvements in law and order, and the announcement of an election roadmap.
He further noted that recent statements about the movement fail to acknowledge the contributions of the BNP leaders and activists.
"Some student leaders seem to have hijacked the entire movement, but we do not seek to claim it for ourselves. While BNP made the most significant contribution, I believe the success of this movement belongs to the people of Bangladesh," he said.
The BNP leader also mentioned that after discussions with BNP and other key participants in the movement, Tarique Rahman proposed a 31-point reform agenda over a year and a half ago.
He criticised the interim government for now presenting their own version of reforms, emphasising that all significant reforms in Bangladesh's history took place during BNP's tenure, and future reforms will also be led by BNP.
The rally was chaired by Brahmanbaria District BNP Convener Abdul Mannan and also addressed by central BNP Deputy International Affairs Secretary Rumin Farhana, Economic Affairs Secretary Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, and Comilla Divisional Organising Secretary Selim Bhuiyan.
