Shahadat Hossain Selim joins BNP dissolving his party
Also go nomination for Lakshmipur-1 constituency
Shahadat Hossain Selim, chairman of the Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has formally joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He joined the party this afternoon (8 December) at BNP chairperson's office in Gulshan. BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury welcomed him with a bouquet.
At the event, Selim also announced the dissolution of the LDP and joined BNP along with his party leaders and activists.
Meanwhile, BNP finalised Selim's nomination for the Lakshmipur-1 constituency. He previously contested there as a candidate of the BNP-led alliance during the parliamentary election in 2018.
Speaking at the programme, Selim said that he began his political career as a member of Chhatra Dal.
"For certain reasons, I had to leave the BNP, but I always carried the party in my heart. All these years I have worked and struggled alongside the BNP," he said.
Announcing the dissolution of LDP, he said, "After 25 long years, I feel proud to return home."
"I hope all those who have joined me will receive due recognition," he added.
At the programme, he also pledged to work to strengthen the BNP in the coming days.
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, Organising Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, and other party leaders were present at the event.
