Referendum before national polls would remain free from party influence: Sarjis
Welcoming the recommendations regarding the implementation of the July National Charter, he said the NCP will decide on signing the charter tomorrow
Holding a referendum before the national election would help keep it free from party influence, said National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam today (28 October).
"When it [referendum] will be held separately and beforehand, there will be a discussion among the public, like why it is being held, what the demands are, and the focus will be on the issues behind the referendum. So, there will be no opportunity for party influence," he said.
The NCP leader made the remarks while talking to journalists after attending leadership selection activities for the NCP convening committees of Rajshahi city and district units in Rajshahi.
Sarjis described the decision to hold a referendum as satisfactory and termed the withdrawal of the note of dissent a "significant step forward."
Welcoming the recommendations regarding the implementation of the July National Charter, he said the NCP will decide on signing the charter tomorrow.
"The recommendations on the mechanism for implementing the July National Charter contain several linguistic ambiguities," Sarjis said. "We will review those carefully before making a final decision on signing."
However, despite the recommendation mentioning the "government," the NCP expects the order for implementing the July Charter to be issued on behalf of the interim government head.
He further reiterated that the July Charter implementation order must come from the head of the interim government, even though the recommendations refer to the government in general terms.
