NCP’s Patwari expresses solidarity with Jamaat, allies’ movement on 5-point demand
Their demands are 'logical and justified', says the NCP leader
National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari has expressed solidarity with the ongoing movement of Jamaat-e-Islami and seven other parties over their five-point demand.
Speaking at an event in the capital today (12 November), Patwari said the demands are "logical and justified."
He also warned that if the government attempted to suppress the movement using police, RAB, or any other force, the NCP would stand "shoulder to shoulder" with the protesters.
Jamaat, allies to stage indefinite sit-in in front of Jamuna from 16 Nov if 5-point demand not met
"Those who are protesting have nothing to fear. We are still here, we are not dead yet," Nasiruddin said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the National Health Alliance, a joint platform of health professionals and students, at the Dhaka Reporters Unity.
He further said, "The referendum will take place in Bangladesh. Even if the BNP tries for another hundred years, it cannot stop it. A large portion of the country supports the referendum, far more than BNP's leaders and activists."
Earlier in the day, Jamaat-e-Islami and its seven allied parties have warned of an indefinite sit-in in front of the chief adviser's residence, Jamuna, beginning on Sunday (16 November) if their five demands, including the implementation of the July Charter, are not met.
They will also stage demonstrations in all districts and metropolitan cities on Friday (14 November).
