While the National Citizen Party and Ganosamhati Andolon agree that reforms will not be sustainable without peoples' mandate, they, however, disagree on the election model.
While NCP wants a constituent assembly election, Ganosamhati Andolon wants parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters at the party office after a dialogue between the two parties today (30 April), Convener of NCP Nahid Islam, said, "We have agreed on various issues regarding reforms with Ganosamhati Andolon. Although there are some disagreements, we will try to reach a consensus through dialogue."
During the meeting, various issues including election, constitutional reform and representation of women in the parliament were discussed.
Nahid added, "We are not organising meetings with different political parties to form a political alliance. Rather, the meetings will help reach a political consensus regarding reforms."
Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki said, "Fundamental reforms and trials of the culprits behind July killings are must before holding elections."
"However, NCP and Ganosamhati Andolon did not disagree on the timeframe of the election," Saki added.
Stating that political parties have to reach a consensus regarding reforms immediately, Saki further said, "Besides, political parties need to agree on those reforms regarding which a consensus has been reached."
During this time, Saki also said the Awami League as a political party has to be put on trial.
