On the second day of a month-long "Desh Garte July Padayatra" (July Walkathon for Building the Nation) campaign, the National Citizen Party (NCP) continued its political march across northern Bangladesh.

They held a series of street rallies in Kurigram and Lalmonirhat before proceeding towards Nilphamari.

Wednesday's events began with a rally at Rajarhat Bazar in Kurigram at around 1:00pm, where central and local leaders addressed residents.

Shortly after, the walkathon commenced from Trimohoni Bazar, concluding with a public gathering at a roundabout in Ghoshpara.

Following the Kurigram leg, NCP activists and leaders headed toward Lalmonirhat, where they marched from the BDR Gate to Mission intersection and held another rally.

The group is expected to spend the night in Nilphamari before resuming the next stretch of their journey.

Leading the day's programme were NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Northern Region Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam, Southern Region Chief Organiser Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, and senior leaders including Samanta Sharmin, Tasnim Zara, and Nahida Sarwar Nibha.

The walkathon began on July 1 from Abu Sayed's grave in Rangpur, is being held in memory of the 2024 July uprising and aims to carry its message across the country.

Abu Sayed, a student protester, was killed by police during last year's mass uprising, and has since become a symbol of people's resistance.

On launching the walkathon, Nahid Islam spoke at yesterday's rally in Rangpur.

He said, "Let us be absolutely clear: if the government or anyone else believes that the thousands who once took to the streets have returned home and stepped back – you are mistaken. From the grave of Abu Sayed, we declare our resolve to reach every corner of Bangladesh."
