Mitford murder unacceptable in a new, fascism-free Bangladesh: JAGPA

The brutal murder of trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in broad daylight for allegedly refusing to pay extortion money at Old Dhaka's Mitford area is unacceptable in a new, fascism-free Bangladesh, Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) has said.
Rashed Pradhan, vice president and spokesperson for the party, said, "The incident is both barbaric and inhumane, and the subsequent stomping over the body reminded the nation of the infamous 'logi-boitha' violence associated with what can be called 'Awami Jahiliyya'."
Rashed made the remarks while speaking at a street rally following a leaflet distribution campaign at Royal Mor in Khulna today (12 July).

During the rally, Rashed said, "This kind of murder is unacceptable in the new Bangladesh we have envisioned — one that is free from the fascism of Hasina's regime and built on the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs."
Rashed added, "The people of Bangladesh did not struggle for a nation ruled by tyranny or controlled as a client state of India. We aspired for a democratic Bangladesh — free from discrimination, extortion, abductions, and killings."
During the programme, Rashed called for a united stance against conspiracies from "Hindustan," ongoing "Awami anarchy," and the reemergence of violence in society.
"If we fail to resist these collectively, the ideals of the July Uprising will be defeated," he further said.
