Mirza Abbas condemns shooting of Hadi, says 'black hands' behind attack must be broken
Abbas also accused a "controversial political party" of orchestrating conspiracies and attempting to destabilise the nation today.
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas today (13 December) strongly condemned the shooting of Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi, calling the brutal attack an assault on democracy itself.
"He is like my son. I was mentally wounded upon hearing the news. This attack is an attack on democracy, and the 'black hands' that carried it out must be broken," Abbas said while speaking at a rally organised by Dhaka South BNP in front of the party's Nayapaltan office to protest the attack and demand the arrest of the assailants.
The veteran BNP leader referenced the hostile reception he received from a crowd at Dhaka Medical College Hospital when he went to visit Hadi yesterday afternoon.
He claimed the agitation was pre-planned, asserting that those who shouted slogans against him were not Hadi's genuine supporters but members of "another political party" trying to create tension and impede Hadi's treatment.
"They wanted Hadi's treatment to be disrupted and for him to die," Abbas claimed.

Yesterday, Mirza Abbas faced an unexpected backlash from "supporters" of the injured Sharif Osman Hadi when he arrived at DMCH to visit the Inqilab Mancha leader.
Abbas, who is the BNP nominee for the Dhaka-8 seat, reached the Emergency Department of DMCH at around 4pm. Upon arrival, some people immediately began shouting "bhua, bhua" (fraud, fraud) slogans aimed at the BNP leader.
Abbas also accused a "controversial political party" of orchestrating conspiracies and attempting to destabilise the nation today, asserting that they seek to keep the nation perpetually unstable.
He noted that Hadi is his electoral "competitor, not an enemy".
"I hope to see him active on the electoral field again," he said. "A person was shot, whoever he is, I don't wish death upon him."
