Hasina ruined the country, interim govt made it worse: Mirza Abbas
He has alleged that some political parties publicly demand elections but privately seek to prevent them, fearing a BNP victory

While ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina had ruined the country's situation, the current interim government has completely wrecked it, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said today (9 August).
Speaking at a discussion, Abbas said he had evidence of corruption and financial misappropriation but was refraining from disclosing details from his current position.
"There are many things to say — how the country has suffered, who has embezzled, how much money has been looted. I have all the evidence, but I won't say it now," he said.
The Dhaka Metropolitan South unit of the Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) organised the discussion in front of the BNP's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka, marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising.
Accusing political rivals of deliberately blaming the BNP for unrest, he said, "Wherever there is murder, looting, or extortion, a party immediately names BNP. This is a deliberate attempt to brand us as the perpetrators in front of the people."
Turning to the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), Abbas said, "Just as you want to come to power, so do we. If the people vote for us, we will take office; if not, we will accept it. But we want votes. BNP has been fighting for democracy and voting rights for the last 17 years."
He also alleged that some political parties publicly demand elections but privately seek to prevent them, fearing a BNP victory.
Criticising the Awami League, Abbas claimed there is a conspiracy "from India" to create unrest in Bangladesh and hamper national elections.
"They have a mindset to ensure elections are not held in the country," he alleged.
