Failure to curb violence now may destabilise pre-election situation further: Jatiya Jubo Shakti

If the ongoing violence is not curbed immediately, the situation prior to the national election will become increasingly unstable, Jatiya Jubo Shakti, the youth wing of National Citizen Party, has said.
The statement by Jatiya Jubo Shakti comes in the backdrop of the recent murder of a trader named Lal Chand alias Sohag in Old Dhaka's Mitford area.
Jubo Shakti made the remarks during a press conference held at their central office in Banglamotor this afternoon (12 July).
During the press conference, Torikul Islam, convener of Jubo Shakti, described the incident as a painful act of terrorism and a grave threat to the country's democratic political culture and fair electoral process.
"This barbaric incident reflects a dark reality — an eruption of violence fueled by extortion, criminal syndicates, and a lack of justice. What has occurred is not just a murder—it is a cruel blow to the nation, our societal structure, and most of all, to the spirit of the July uprising," Torikul said.
He added that the alleged involvement of members affiliated with BNP's youth wing, Jubo Dal, was not surprising.
"History shows us how, particularly during the 2001–2006 BNP regime, Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal were used as tools of repression in a brutal politics of occupation and control. What we're witnessing today is a continuation of that legacy," Torikul said.
Calling on law enforcement agencies to take immediate and decisive action to dismantle BNP's network of extortion, violence, and dominance, Torikul urged the authorities to restore public safety, ensure a peaceful pre-election environment, and protect the people's right to vote.
