Ducsu election should reflect fairness, student participation: Fakhrul
“Our expectation is that the election will be held in a fair and participatory manner, ensuring that it is both transparent and beautiful,” he says

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stressed the need for a fair, participatory, and transparent election in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) polls.
"Our expectation is that the election will be held in a fair and participatory manner, ensuring that it is both transparent and beautiful," the BNP leader told reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) today (19 August), after returning from a weeklong medical trip to Thailand.
His comments after the decision to extend the nomination collection deadline for Ducsu polls by one extra day.
Several student leaders alleged that the extension was granted to benefit Chhatra Dal leaders.
Earlier, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal had alleged that a mob had obstructed its leaders of Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall from collecting nomination papers.
Fakhrul also reiterated that the people of Bangladesh want elections, adding that there is no alternative to national polls for achieving political and economic emancipation. "The only way to resolve the crisis is through holding elections swiftly," he said.
He further said BNP is not in favour of a proportional representation (PR) electoral system.
Fakhrul also noted that those opposed to reforms within their parties would have to deal with that issue internally.
