Ducsu candidates barred from disrespecting Liberation War, July Uprising martyrs in campaigns
No outsiders will be allowed to stay in the university’s halls for seven days before the election, while the Dhaka University metro rail station will remain closed on the day before and the day of voting

Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) candidates will not be allowed to campaign by disrespecting the martyrs of the Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising, Returning Officer Professor Kazi Maruful Islam said today (26 August).
Prof Maruful Islam, also a faculty member of the Department of Development Studies, made the remarks at a discussion on the code of conduct for candidates held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.
The Ducsu election is scheduled for 9 September, nearly six years after the previous polls, and security measures have been tightened on the campus to ensure a fair election.
No outsiders will be allowed to stay in the university's halls for seven days before the election, while the Dhaka University metro rail station will remain closed on the day before and the day of voting.
The Ducsu Election Commission also decided that army personnel will be stationed at the seven main entrances of the campus on election day.
Once voting concludes, polling centres will remain surrounded until results are announced to prevent unauthorised entry.
According to Prof Maruful Islam, these decisions were finalised at a meeting yesterday (25 August) between the university administration and the returning officers.
During today's discussion, some candidates demanded that examinations be postponed during the Ducsu election period. However, Prof Maruful Islam rejected the demand.
