Sarjis Alam, the chief organiser of the northern region of the National Citizen Party (NCP), flew to Panchagarh via Saidpur and held street rallies in various upazilas of the border district with more than a hundred vehicles today (24 March).

He was accompanied by Student Against Discrimination members and their families during the trip, reports our correspondent from the spot.

During the trip, the young politician, who hails from Panchagarh, visited various upazilas of the districts and held a rally at Bijoy Square in Debiganj upazila earlier on the day.

Addressing locals at the rally, he said, "We [NCP] want to show our work not just talk."

"As a son of Panchagarh, I want your full cooperation. We have started working in every district and upazila from our place. We will come to your doors very soon," he added.

Sarjis also said, "In the future, no one in Bangladesh will cast their vote based on the name and symbol of parties."

"Till now, leaders have used the common people in various ways. The day before the election, they go and give some money. After the election, when the voters go to them seeking any help, they first ask for money. The new Bangladesh cannot be allowed to be like this anymore," he added.

He also called on Panchagarh residents to correct any of the NCP's mistakes.

"Don't blindly follow any party. If you are a blind follower, no one will value you. We will come to you with our symbol, if we can keep your word, then you will vote for us. Panchagarh is my birthplace, so I have a special demand from you," said the NCP leader.

Later in the day, he held another rally in Tentulia and was scheduled to attend an iftar mehfil at Atwari upazila, where he was born and raised.

Earlier on the day, Sarjis left Dhaka for the Saidpur Airport where he talked to reporters at around 11:00am and left for Panchagarh from there.
