Death sentences of rapists should be carried out publicly: Mahila Dal President Afroza Abbas
'We don’t want the hanging of the rapists inside prisons, rather we want them to be hanged publicly,' she says

Rapists will not learn their lesson unless one or two of them are given capital punishment publicly, said Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal President Afroza Abbas today (16 March).
"Asia was raped and brutally killed. Such incidents will not happen one after another if the trial of her killer is held publicly and quickly," Afroza said while talking to reporters after visiting an eight-year-old victim of an attempted rape incident at Atigram area under ward no-4 in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj this morning.
While talking to reporters, Afroza said, "BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman learned about the incident through media and gave us instructions immediately to stand by the victim."
"During Sheikh Hasina's era, rapes had been committed in a mass scale for 17 years. These incidents did not see any trials, and instead of punishing the offenders, they were awarded. This is why the rape incidents have increased by the day," said Afroza, who is the wife of senior BNP leader and the party's Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas.
"Women would not become victims of rape if the perpetrators had been punished like Monir who was hanged for raping a woman named Rima in Narayanganj when Khaleda Zia was in power.
"We urge the current government not to kill time and to hang the rapists in front of millions of people. We don't want the hanging of the rapists inside prisons, rather we want them to be hanged publicly," Afroza added.
"The law is what the public demands. The rapists can be punished according to Islam too, which says to ensure death penalty for the rapists by throwing stones at them. We hope that the government will immediately ensure justice for the rape victims and punish the rapists," Afroza further said.
