Chattogram University to hold Cucsu polls on 12 October after 35 years

After a long gap of 35 years, the Chattogram University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) election is finally set to be held on Sunday (12 October).
The election schedule was announced today (28 August), at 3pm by Chief Election Commissioner Professor Monir Uddin of the Chemistry Department at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The draft voter list has already been prepared and will be published on 1 September.
The last date for filing objections regarding the voter list is 4 September, while the final list will be published on 11 September.
According to the schedule, nomination paper distribution will begin on 14 September. Both the distribution and submission of nomination papers will take place on 15 September.
The deadline for submitting nomination papers is 16 September at 3:30pm. Verification of nomination papers will be conducted on 18 September.
The preliminary list of candidates will be published on 21 September. The deadline for withdrawing candidature is 23 September at 3:30pm.
Objections regarding candidacies can be filed and resolved until 24 September at 3:30pm. The final list of candidates will be published on 25 September.
The voting will be held from 9am to 4pm, and results will be announced the same day.
Alongside the central students' union, hall union elections will also be held simultaneously, the chief election commissioner confirmed.
The first Cucsu election was held in 1970, four years after the establishment of Chittagong University in 1966.
Although the election was supposed to be held every academic year, the university authorities have managed to organise it only six times so far.
The last election took place on 8 February 1990.
