CPB calls for mass movement to protect national resources, sovereignty
The statement criticised recent government agreements, saying they are beyond the current administration’s constitutional authority
The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has urged the people to launch an all-out mass movement to safeguard the country's national resources and sovereignty.
CPB President Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan and General Secretary Abdullah Kafi Ratan made the call in a statement today (20 November).
The party also called for the success of upcoming protests, including the nationwide rally on 23 November under the Left Democratic Alliance, the "March to Jamuna" programme on 4 December and a larger event to be announced at the workers' convention in Chattogram on 22 November.
The statement criticised recent government agreements, saying they exceed the current administration's constitutional authority.
"The government has no right to take measures conducted against national interests and in favour of private or foreign interests," it said.
Highlighting ongoing deals, the CPB pointed to the handing over of the New Mooring Terminal of Chattogram Port to a foreign company, the 33-year agreement with a Dutch firm for the Laldia Char terminal, and the 22-year operation agreement with Switch Company for the Pangaon Naval Terminal near Dhaka.
According to the statement, these agreements were executed beyond the jurisdiction of the government and against national interest.
