BNP-Jammat alliance trying to foil ongoing development: Lawmakers

Lawmakers today said although the present government is working relentlessly to fulfill the people's expectations, a section of political parties are hatching conspiracy against the country and the government.

"The present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is working to uplift the country, but the BNP-Jammat alliance is hatching conspiracy against the country to foil the ongoing development", said Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President's speech at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huq Tuku was in the chair.

Taking part in the discussion they highlighted different development activities in various sectors including communication, socio-economic, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT) under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The President in his 168-page speech on January 5 last, on the first day of the maiden session in 2023 of the 11th parliament, focused on the country's massive successes in different sectors.

Participating in the discussion, the treasury bench minister and also a lawmaker of Panchagarh-2 said, "Bangladesh has now reached a status of developed nation, but the BNP-Jammat are trying to thwart the ongoing development".

Sharply criticizing the role of BNP-Jammat, another treasury bench lawmaker and former Chief Whip Abdus Shaheed, MP, of Moulvibazar-4 said the BNP-Jammat alliance is continuously spreading 'rumour' against the country, saying, "BNP has no ideology and they are staging movement with a settled and base-less issue".

Regarding the digital Bangladesh, Khaleda Khanam of women seat-27 said the government led by the BNP-Jammat alliance had no idea on how to build the country a digitalized one, saying, but now the country is moving to be a 'smart one' under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During the discussion, Jatiya Party lawmaker Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary of Gaibandha-1 told the parliament that the present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been availed to keep the country dynamic despite various global impediments like Corona pandemic coupled with prolonged Ukraine-Russia war.

Earlier, the chief whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury came up with a proposal for holding discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President's speech in the House and then it was seconded by treasury bench lawmaker Shamsul Huq Tuku.

Lawmakers including Benjir Ahmed of Dhaka-20, Merina Jahan of Sirajganj-6, Muhibur Rahman of Patuakhali-4, Syeda Rubina Akhter of women seat-28, Shamil Uddin Ahmed Simul of Chapainawabganj-8, attended the discussion.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
