New BNP candidate Kamrul to face off Jamaat leader Taher in Cumilla-11; Munshi to contest in Cumilla-4
Local sources said it would be difficult for the BNP’s new candidate to make a breakthrough in what is regarded as a Jamaat stronghold
The BNP has nominated a new candidate Kamrul Huda for Cumilla-11 (Chauddagram), the constituency of Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.
Kamrul Huda is the senior joint general secretary of the BNP's South District unit and president of the Chauddagram upazila BNP. This is his first nomination for a parliamentary seat.
Local sources said it would be difficult for the BNP's new candidate to make a breakthrough in what is regarded as a Jamaat stronghold. Except for the 1996 parliamentary election, BNP candidates have never won this seat.
For the Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency, the BNP has announced the name of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, who was elected MP from this seat four consecutive times.
NCP's Chief Organiser for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah, will contest the election from the same seat.
