BNP earns Tk15.65cr, spends Tk4.8cr in 2024, party says in financial report
The party’s income has increased nearly 14 times in one year.
The BNP has submitted its financial report for 2024 to the Election Commission (EC), outlining the party's income and expenses for the calendar year.
According to the report, BNP earned a total of Tk15.65 crore in 2024, while it spent Tk4.80 crore.
The party's income has increased nearly 14 times in one year. In 2023, BNP's income was Tk1.01 crore and its expenditure was Tk3.65 crore.
BNP currently has Tk10.85 crore deposited in bank accounts.
A BNP delegation led by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi submitted the report in person at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, this morning.
After submitting the report, Rizvi told reporters, "Those who once destroyed democracy may now try to sabotage the election. It is the government's duty to prevent such plots."
He expressed hope that the current EC would hold a free, fair, and inclusive election, saying the people of Bangladesh have been denied their voting rights for the past 15 years.
"People have waited a long time to vote. We believe this commission will ensure a credible election," Rizvi added.
On 7 July, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said letters had been sent to all registered political parties, requesting their financial reports.
However, the Awami League was excluded because its party registration had been suspended.
According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), all registered political parties must submit their income and expenditure reports for the previous year to the EC by 31 July each year.
There are currently 51 registered political parties, but only 50 received the EC's notice due to the Awami League's suspension.
