Attack on Nur: Gono Odhikar Parishad demands ban on JaPa, home adviser's resignation
The Gono Odhikar Parishad has demanded ban of the Jatiyo Party within 48 hours and resignation of the home affairs adviser, protesting yesterday's attack on the party's president, Nurul Haque Nur.
The party's General Secretary Rashed Khan pressed home three demands during a demonstration in Dhaka's Purana Paltan area this afternoon (30 August) near its central office.

He called for holding the home adviser accountable for yesterday's attack and accusing him of failing in his duties.
The party also demanded that the government immediately form an investigation committee into the incident.
Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and AB Party were also present at the rally.
After the rally, protesters from the parties staged a demonstration in the Paltan area.

This comes after the party's nationwide protests earlier today, as announced by Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan last night.
During the Dhaka protest, party leaders and activists chanted slogans against the Jatiyo Party and burned tyres on the road.
As part of their countrywide demonstrations, Gono Odhikar Parishad activists blocked a road today to condemn last night's attack.

The protesters took up position at the 2 No Gate intersection at noon, halting all vehicular movement, which caused significant inconvenience to commuters.
Last night, a clash broke out between activists of Nur's party and the Jatiyo Party in Kakrail.
As tensions escalated, police and army personnel charged batons to bring the situation under control. Nur was injured during law enforcers' action.
