AL regime nurtured a culture of impunity: Hasnat
"We want to commit to building functional institutions and not engaging in divisive politics," he said

The fallen Awami League (AL) regime nurtured a culture of impunity for one and a half decades, said Hasnat Abdullah, former convener of Students Against Discrimination.
"For one and a half decades, the Awami League nurtured a culture of impunity. The BDR massacre was labelled as a BDR mutiny. A massacre was also carried out at Shapla Chattar. The practice of conducting elections at night instead of during the day began, and dummy votes were cast," he said.
Hasnat said these today at the grand unveiling programme of the National Citizen Party (NCP), a new political party formed by students embodying the spirit of last year's July uprising, at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, where a massive crowd of people from all walks of life and the country's political spectrum has gathered.
Hasnat also said, "The hard-working people of this land will decide who goes to parliament. We have failed to develop the nation and establish an independent judiciary, a functional police force, and an efficient bureaucracy. We want to commit to building functional institutions and not engaging in divisive politics."
"Our friends abroad will remain, but there will be no imposed prescriptions," he added.
He further said, "We will build a better Bangladesh by combining the wisdom of the elderly with the passionate spirit of the youth. It will be a country where freedom of expression and the right to dissent exist, a country where the sons of blacksmiths and potters can become leaders."
Hasnat has been named as the chief organiser of NCP for the southern region.
