Police detained three youths and recovered a Burmese knife from them during a raid on a moving bus at a check post in Savar today (17 April).

The trio were detained from a Dhaka-bound bus of Moumita Paribahan on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Bank Town area of the upazila around 7:30pm, said police.

While in police custody, the detainees claimed themselves as students.

According to police, the three were detained during routine raids on moving buses plying on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway to prevent incidents of mugging.

Shahinur Kabir, additional superintendent of police of Dhaka district (Savar Circle), said, "An incident of mugging happened on a moving bus a few days ago. A total of three such incidents have taken place in the last three months."

"In light of these incidents, we have been conducting raids on vehicles, especially local buses. During one such raid, we detained three youths," Shahinur said.

"These youths might have mugged the passengers of the bus if we had not intervened," the police official added.
