PM assures support for locally developed ventilator, high-flow oxygen machine

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (28 July) assured full government support for testing, quality validation and commercial production of locally developed ventilators and high-flow oxygen machines, stressing the importance of healthcare research and innovation.
"The government is giving the highest priority to research and innovation in healthcare. We will provide all necessary support for testing, quality verification and commercial production of these locally developed medical devices," he said.
The assurance came at a meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
During the meeting, the prime minister praised the experts and researchers who developed the two devices using indigenous technology and assured support to make them ready for practical use and commercialisation.
The experts presented the performance, prospects and future development plans of the ventilator and high-flow oxygen machine. They said two separate teams of specialists developed the devices, which could be introduced in hospitals nationwide after regulatory approval and clinical trials, with export potential.
Officials said local production would reduce costs and make advanced healthcare services more affordable while reducing dependence on imported medical technologies.
The locally developed ventilator, a critical device for patients with severe respiratory complications, will undergo further testing to ensure safety, effectiveness and compliance with international standards.
The high-flow oxygen machine is designed for patients with respiratory problems. It can operate without electricity, making it suitable for remote areas with limited power supply and use in ambulances during emergencies.
