Patient dies after jumping from 8th floor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police say
A 20-year-old patient died after jumping from the eighth floor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday night (25 January), police said.
The deceased has been identified as Naznin Akhter.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the patient had been undergoing treatment for kidney and other ailments in the Medicine Department and died after falling from the eighth floor around 7:45pm at the hospital's new building.
According to family members and police, Naznin had been undergoing treatment for the past two months. Her family is financially distressed, and she had reportedly been under mental stress as they struggled to bear the cost of her treatment.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman said preliminary findings suggest the patient died by suicide.
