National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz today (13 May) highlighted the commission's commitment to establishing equal rights for all citizens by building a democratic and accountable state, while also developing a framework to safeguard those rights.

During a discussion between the commission and leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Ali Riaz said National Consensus Commission aims to develop a national charter to shape Bangladesh's future direction.

The discussion, focused on state restructuring and reform, is part of the ongoing political struggle that has persisted for years, he said, adding that this aspiration was clearly opened up in the mass uprising of July-August 2024.

Commission members Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, and Md Ayub Mia and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider were present.

Led by CPB President Mohammad Shah Alam and General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, an 11-member delegation including party presidium member Professor AN Rasheda, Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan, Aniruddha Das Anjan and Assistant General Secretary Mihir Ghosh participated in the discussion.

On March 23, CPB submitted its proposals on reforms to the commission. In that context, the commission held discussions with the party today. Already, 32 political parties, including CPB, have participated in the first phase of discussions with the commission.
