At one stage, a relative of the patient allegedly assaulted a female intern.
Interns at Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital (OMCH) went on work abstention on Saturday morning, protesting the alleged assault on a female intern by relatives of a patient earlier in the day.
Hospital sources said an altercation broke out between some interns and relatives of a patient over treatment at Ward No. 6 of the hospital around 1:00am.
At one stage, a relative of the patient allegedly assaulted a female intern.
The hospital authorities later handed over three people, including a woman, to the police in connection with the incident.
Medical services at the hospital have been disrupted due to the strike, forcing relatives of some patients to seek treatment at other hospitals.
Additional police have been deployed on the hospital premises to prevent further unrest, said Mainul Zakir, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
No complaint has been lodged in this connection so far, the OC added.
