OC, SI closed over Khulna ‘gang-rape’
Police are yet to decide the steps against other three accused policemen

Khulna Railway Police’s Officer-in-Charge Osman Gani and Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hauq have been closed following the allegation of gang-raping a woman in custody.
Kushtia Railway Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Firoz Ahmed confirmed the matter on Wednesday. ASP Firoz is also leading a committee to probe the incident.
He said: “After initial investigation, we have found evidence of negligence of duty against the accused policemen, which tarnishes the reputation of the force.
“So, they were closed to Pakshi Zila Railway Police Lines for the sake of fair investigation.”
Police are yet to decide the steps against other three accused policemen.
On August 2 midnight, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in custody by five members of the Government Railway Police (GRP), including OC Osman Gani.
The woman told the Khulna judicial magistrate about the gang-rape incident when the police produced her in the court on Saturday with charges of possessing five bottles of contraband phensidyl.
Later, the court sent her to Khulna Medical College Hospital for medical check-up which was conducted on Monday.
OC Osman Gani denied the allegation of rape and claimed that the woman was trying to evade the drug case by inventing the rape allegation.
