MCCI mourns the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, three-time elected Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Her death marks the end of a significant chapter in the country's political history and leaves behind a legacy of leadership, resilience, and profound national impact.
As one of the most prominent political figures of independent Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia played a decisive role in shaping the nation's democratic trajectory. At a critical juncture following the restoration of parliamentary democracy, she assumed leadership with courage and conviction, guiding the country through challenging political and economic transitions. Her leadership reflected a strong commitment to sovereignty, national dignity, and the aspirations of the people.
Throughout her political career, she demonstrated determination, personal sacrifice, and courage in the face of adversity. Her sustained engagement in national politics, despite numerous trials, stood as a testament to her dedication to public service and democratic governance. Beyond national leadership, she also symbolised the participation of women at the highest levels of politics, inspiring generations of women in Bangladesh and beyond.
Her passing will be deeply felt by her family, colleagues, admirers, and millions across the nation who valued her leadership and patriotic spirit. At this solemn moment, the members of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka, extend their heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family, her party, and all those mourning her loss.
