Former education minister Majeed Khan passes away

Former education minister Dr Abdul Majeed Khan has passed away at the age of 94.
As a visionary leader, Dr Khan dedicated his life to the cause of social development, particularly to expand education among the mass people. Born on 1 July 1929 at Faridpur, Dr Khan was educated in Kolkata, London and Minnesota, USA.
Throughout his bright and colourful life, he held several important positions at home and abroad. Former education minister and planning minister Dr Khan earlier served as Ambassador of Bangladesh to France, Spain and Morocco. He was a senior director of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and a member of the Executive Board and a Permanent Representative of UNESCO.
He founded the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) and was honoured as the President Emeritus and Founder President of IUB. He also established the first-ever IT-based university called the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS).
Dr Khan established the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development in Cumilla. He was the founder Chairperson of the Committee of Action for Research, Extension and Services (CARES).
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the IUB campus around 3pm today.
The second namaz-e-janaza will take place at the Baridhara Jame Mosque and Islamic Centre after the Jumma Prayers on Friday (28 April).
