Ekushey Padak-winning folk singer Sushma Das passes away
Artists, politicians, general people paid tribute to her at Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar

Ekushey Padak-winning folk singer Sushma Das died at her residence in Howlader Para of Sylhet city this afternoon (26 March). She was 95.
According to family members, Sushma Das had been suffering from age-related illnesses and had received treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College. She fell critically ill on 13 March and was later taken home, where she passed away today.
Later around 8pm, tributes were paid to her at the Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar.
Former Sylhet City Corporation mayor and BNP Chairperson's adviser Ariful Haque Chowdhury, along with various individuals and organsations, honoured her memory.
Artists performed Rabindranath Tagore's song, "Ache Dukh, Ache Mrityu, Birahadahon lagey. Tobu Shanti, Tabu Ananda, Tabu Ananta Jagey," as a final farewell.
Her body was then taken to her ancestral village in Shalla, Sunamganj, where her final rites will be performed.
She leaves behind four sons, two daughters, and numerous relatives and admirers.
A prominent figure in folk music, Sushma Das collaborated with renowned artists including Shah Abdul Karim, Durbin Shah, Ali Hossain Sarkar, and Kamal Pasha.
She was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2017 for her contributions to folk music, adding to her numerous other accolades. Her younger brother, Pandit Ramkanai Das, also received the Ekushey Padak for classical music.
