Govt calls death sentences for Hasina, Kamal a historic verdict, warns against unrest
In the period following the verdict, everyone is specially requested to refrain from any kind of unruly behaviour, provocation, violence, or unlawful activities
The interim government has urged citizens nationwide to maintain calm and restraint following the International Crimes Tribunal's "historic verdict" sentencing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for crimes against humanity.
In a formal statement issued today (17 November), the government said, "Acknowledging the profound significance of this judgment, the interim government urges people from all walks of life to remain calm, restrained, and responsible."
In the period following the verdict, everyone is specially requested to refrain from any kind of unruly behavior, provocation, violence, or unlawful activities, the statement added.
"The long-awaited verdict, especially for the families of those martyred during the July Uprising, may naturally stir strong emotions among the public."
However, the government firmly warned that no one should take any step that disrupts public order under the influence of such emotions.
The government further made it clear that any attempt to create unrest, disorder, or disrupt public order will be dealt with strictly.
