No security threat over Victory Day, no parade this year either: Home adviser
There is no threat of unrest centering the upcoming Victory Day on 16 December, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today (19 November).
He also said like last year, no Victory Day parade will be held this year.
Speaking to reporters after a security coordination meeting at the Secretariat ahead of Victory Day 2025, the adviser addressed concerns about political instability following the death sentence handed to Sheikh Hasina.
He said, "There has been no unrest after the verdict. There is no possibility of instability on Victory Day either."
He added that all celebrations will take place as in previous years 'even on a larger scale' but the Victory Day parade will remain suspended.
Home Adviser said, "We want everyone to celebrate Victory Day in a good spirit."
When asked about the incident involving a journalist picked up from home by individuals identifying themselves as DB officials, the adviser said he had no prior knowledge of the matter.
"This is the first I'm hearing of it. I may know more after an investigation," he said.
Asked whether police committed wrongdoing, he responded, "I will look into it first."
