Police parade handcuffed ‘extortionist’ in Mohammadpur
Using a handheld microphone, officers addressed local traders and urged them not to give in to extortion demands.
Police arrested a listed extortionist and paraded him through several roads in the capital's Mohammadpur area yesterday afternoon (22 February).
The arrestee, Faruk, also known as Kala Faruk, was arrested in an operation in the Kolatia area of Keraniganj yesterday, said Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mezbah Uddin.
He added that the public parade was conducted to ensure that residents do not feel afraid and become more aware.
"Through this, we want to send a message to extortionists and land grabbers. No one will be spared if they commit crimes," he said.
According to OC, Faruk is accused of threatening multiple businessmen in the Basila area of Mohammadpur to extort money.
"Several cases are pending against him with the Mohammadpur Police Station," he said.
"We have arrested the extortionist. Do not pay extortion money to anyone. If anyone demands extortion, detain them and inform us," police said while parading the handcuffed suspect through different streets of Mohammadpur.
