A newborn girl, who was discovered alive hours before burial on Friday, died last night at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH).

Earlier on Friday (October 16), a woman gave birth to a premature baby, after six and a half months' pregnancy and DMCH doctors declared the baby dead.

But, the baby moved when her father took her to the graveyard for burial in the capital's Rayerbazar cemetery on Friday, Somoy News reported.

Later, they brought her back to DMCH and she was again admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.

The baby survived only six days after returning to the hospital from the cemetery and died at the DMCH at around 11:30pm on Wednesday.

Later, the hospital authorities formed a committee to investigate the negligence in the incident. According to the report of the committee, the director of DMCH blamed the failure of his own doctors and the hospital for the incident.

Though the doctors termed the survival of the newborn a miracle after she was found alive, but now DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin regretted for their failure to protect her.
