Negligence in July killings’ trial will force students, people again to take to the streets: Mir Snigdho

Any negligence in the trial process of the July-August killings will force students and the public once again to take to the streets, just like martyrs Abu Sayed and Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho did last year, said Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho today (6 March).

Emphasising the irreplaceable sacrifices made by the martyrs and the injured of the July uprising, Snigdho, the brother of Mugdho, assured the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation's unwavering support for them.

Snigdho, the chief executive officer of the foundation, made the remarks at a ceremony organised to distribute financial support to the victims of the July-August uprising in Cox's Bazar.

The event was organised by the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, with assistance from the Cox's Bazar District Administration, at the Cox's Bazar Cultural Centre auditorium.

The family of Nurul Amin, a student leader from Eidgaon's Purba Gojalia area who was martyred during the uprising, received Tk5 lakh. Also, 47 injured individuals of the district received Tk1 lakh each in financial assistance.

The district's Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin noted, "The families of the martyrs and the injured in Cox's Bazar are facing extreme hardships. The administration has supported them as much as possible, including providing Ramadan gifts and previous assistance to these brave individuals."

The event commenced with a minute of silence to honour and remember the martyrs and the injured.

According to the foundation officials, four individuals were killed and 82 people were injured during the protests in Cox's Bazar last year. The verification process for 62 injured individuals has been completed.

Earlier, the foundation had provided Tk5 lakh in financial assistance to each of the families of three other martyrs in the district.
