The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sought information on the bank accounts of Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, who is also a close relative of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The revenue board has also requested information on the bank accounts of Sheikh Fazle Fahim, former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and son of Sheikh Selim.

NBR's Tax Zone-15 has issued a letter in this regard to all banks, financial institutions, the National Savings Directorate, and the Bangladesh Post Office under Section 200 of the Income Tax Act 2023.

The letter seeks information on the bank accounts and credit cards of Sheikh Selim, his father, mother, son, daughter, and brother, as well as accounts in their joint names or those of business enterprises they own.

Sheikh Selim, who was a member of the recently dissolved parliament, is a taxpayer under Tax Zone 15.

This move is part of the revenue board's regular initiative to prevent tax evasion.

Earlier, Tax Zone-15 issued a similar letter seeking information on the bank accounts of businessman Saiful Alam and his family members.
