Nassa Group owner will face legal action if workers aren't paid: Adviser Sakhawat
During the meeting, Nassa Group representatives were instructed to obtain power of attorney from owner Nazrul Islam Mazumder by 21 September in order to liquidate assets and arrange payment of workers’ current wages and allowances.
The Labour and Employment Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain has warned that legal action will be taken against Nassa Group owner if the company fails to pay workers' wages.
He made the remarks today (16 September) while presiding over the 13th meeting of the advisory committee on labour and business environment of industries at Beximco Industrial Park, held at the ministry, reads a press release.
During the meeting, Nassa Group representatives were instructed to obtain power of attorney from owner Nazrul Islam Mazumder by 21 September in order to liquidate assets and arrange payment of workers' current wages and allowances.
The advisory committee also said the company must also decide within this period whether operations will continue or shut down. "Failure to comply will result in legal action, and the passports of the owner, his wife, son, and daughter will be revoked."
The meeting also revealed details of extensive assets owned by Nassa Group's chairman and his family members:
- Two 12-storey commercial bank buildings in Gulshan-1
- Two bighas of landscaped land on 300 feet road
- A raw market in Jolshiri Sector-17
- Multiple plots under daughter Anika's name, along with other family-owned properties
- A warehouse and petrol pump at Meghna Ghat
- 300 bighas of land in Thakurgaon
- Around 10 bighas of land beside Shanta Mariam, with boundary walls
- Date orchard and resort in Dubai
- A large market in Chandpur
- 10 bighas of land in Niketan
- Two major date depots in Hatirjheel project containing dates worth Tk 10–12 crore
- A residence on 10 kathas of land near DOHS mosque, Mohakhali
- Provident Fund worth Tk 24 crore with EXIM Bank
- A seized house in Gulshan-1, from where the chairman was arrested
- One bigha of land in Gulshan, bought from Partex Group
- 20 plots in Purbachal under the chairman and family's names (4–5 seized by ACC)
- A hospital and nursing institute on 2.5 bighas in Purbachal
- A Tk100 crore market on 2.5 bighas in Jolshiri Sector-17 under the chairman's name
- Eight plots in Jolshiri-2 (20–28 kathas each, including two corner plots)
- 30–40 bighas of land opposite Nila Market in Jolshiri, near police housing
- 30–40 bighas of land by the Navy on 300 feet road, including a zoo, mosque, and guesthouse (some mortgaged)
- A 4.5 bigha property with swimming pool, mosque, and guesthouse in Diabari, valued at Tk 400 crore
- Furniture shop near Mascot Plaza, Uttara, and a plot in Uttara Sector-13 (Sonargaon Janapath)
- Nassa Group head office on three bighas in Tejgaon Industrial Area, beside Mohakhali bus stand
- Seven bighas of land opposite Aarong in Tejgaon
- Another seven bighas of land beside Aarong (bought from Gazi Group, can be mortgaged)
- Additional 10 bighas of land at Meghna Ghat
