'My wife assaulted me': Narayanganj SI withdrawn after video showing him drunk goes viral
Police say the officer, who allegedly admitted drinking alcohol, has been suffering from mental-health difficulties due to family problems.
A sub-inspector (SI) of Narayanganj's Sadar River Police Station was withdrawn from duty after a video showing him apparently intoxicated -- singing, dancing and later crying in public -- went viral on social media.
The officer was identified as Abdul Mannan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rakibuzzaman confirmed to The Business Standard today (5 September).
The incident was captured in a 1-minute, 5-second video that has since surfaced on social media. In the video, Mannan is seen sitting on the ground, singing and dancing, before later appearing to cry as people gather around him.
When people there asked him why he was behaving that way, Mannan said his wife had assaulted him. He also admitted to drinking alcohol.
However, OC Rakibuzzaman said Mannan was suffering from mental health problems due to family issues.
"Police have collected medical documents from his family," he added.
The OC also said that senior police officials were informed about the video, and that Mannan was subsequently withdrawn from duty.
An investigation into the incident is underway, he added.
