Mountaineer Prabal Barman, a member of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association (BAA), hosted the Kilimanjaro Expedition 2025 Flag-off Ceremony today (31 May) at Cloud Bistro restaurant in the capital's Panthapath.

Prabal Barman, Chinmoy Saha, and Shayla Sharmin Shanta aim to climb the seven summits, referring to the highest peak in all seven continents, over the next several years.

"Since I have a full-time job as well as family duties, I will have to do this in between. It will take about four years if things go according to plan," said Prabal.

The three mountaineers are starting the first phase of their mission by climbing Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. They will begin their journey on 2 June.

"The journey is not just about personal achievements: it is my initiative to inspire the youth of Bangladesh to move forward towards their limitless potential," said Prabal.

Wasfia Nazreen, the first and only Bangladeshi to complete the Seven Summits was an inspiration for them, they said.

The event was held in association with Bangladesh Astronomical Association and sponsored by  Ultra Camp Runners (UCR), Four Seasons BD, Zig-Zag and Taran.
