A mother and her son were killed today (25 August) in a head-on collision between a Jamuna Line bus and a three-wheeler Mahindra in Barishal. 

The victims were identified as Sumi Akter, 30, and her 4-year-old son Azmain. Sumi was the wife of Azam Mridha, a resident of Agailjhara Upazila.

The incident took place at around 1:30pm at the Bezhar area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Gournadi Upazila in Barishal, Md Bipul Hossain, station officer of the Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defense, confirmed the incident.

He said, "Mahindra was severely damaged from the front in the accident. The 67 other passengers on the Mahindra were injured and have been sent to the hospital. 

"The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police."

Gournadi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Rasul Molla said, "The road is currently clear, and traffic is moving normally. The seven injured individuals have been sent to the hospital."

According to eyewitnesses, the Dhaka-bound Jamuna Line bus was passing the Bezhar bus stand at around 1:30pm. At the same time, a passenger-carrying Mahindra was heading towards Barishal from the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided head-on while both were in motion.
