Monirul Islam made SB chief 

 

Md Monirul Islam, additional police commissioner (DIG) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, has been made chief of police's Special Branch (SB).

The Home Ministry's Public Security Department issued an order on Sunday promoting him as Additional Inspector General of Police (current duties). 

Earlier, Monirul Islam, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), took over as the head of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of the police on 16 February, 2016.

He joined the police service in 1995 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. 

With a vast experience in investigating different types of complicated criminal cases. Within his 22 years' service, he had been in Detective Branch for 9 years, Special Branch in 2 years. Prior to creating the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTCU) in February 2016, Detective branch was responsible for investigating terrorism, cyber and other transnational crime related cases.

Monirul Islam was awarded 'Bangladesh Police Medal' and 'President Police Medal' for five times in recognition of his distinguished service for detective Branch as well as for his tactful media management and the CTTCU. He graduated in British Law from North Umbria University, UK, completed an MA in English, MSS in Criminology and Criminal Justice and PGD in Genocide Studies from Dhaka University.

 He has been teaching Criminology as a part time teacher (Adjunct Faculty) at the University of Dhaka for last three years.
