Family members alleged that she was killed for her gold earrings and necklace.
Two brothers accused of robbery were beaten to death by an angry mob last night (16 April) in Bonparil village under Sadar Upazila of Manikganj after a missing child was found dead.
The deceased were Pannu Mia, 45, an autorickshaw driver, and his younger brother Fazlu Mia, 28. Pannu's son Nazmul, 20, was critically injured in the attack, reports Prothom Alo.
According to police and local sources, Atika Akter, 9, daughter of Dodul Mia from the same village, went missing yesterday evening.
Her family spread the news on social media and made public announcements in the area.
Later, at around 10pm, Atika's body was found with her hands and feet tied in a nearby corn field.
Family members alleged that she was killed for her gold earrings and necklace.
Suspecting Pannu and his brother of being involved in the killing, locals and the victim's relatives attacked them, beating them severely.
Pannu and Fazlu died on the spot, while Nazmul was rushed to the 250-bed Manikganj General Hospital in critical condition.
Police from Manikganj Sadar Police Station later brought the situation under control and deployed additional forces in the area.
Officer-in-Charge Ikram Hossain said the bodies of the child and the two brothers have been sent to Manikganj Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
He added that legal action will be taken against those involved in the murder as well as the mob beating.
