Malaysia’s labour market not yet open, BOESL warns workers

State-run recruiting agency Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) said yesterday that Malaysia's regular labour market has not yet reopened.
The agency urged Malaysia-bound workers to remain vigilant and avoid being misled or defrauded.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, BOESL stated that only the 7,873 workers who had completed all procedures by 31 May 2024 but could not travel due to various complications will be sent under a special initiative. Arrangements have been made for these listed workers to go to Malaysia officially through BOESL.
The agency explained that this special process applies only to those enlisted workers.
They will be able to travel to Malaysia in the designated sectors, construction and touris, after receiving training, at the government-fixed migration cost of Tk162,500.
The BOESL further warned that any attempts to spread rumours claiming that Malaysia's labour market is open, and to extract money from workers, should be considered fraudulent.
Aspiring workers have therefore been advised to remain alert against such unscrupulous groups.
BOESL, established in 1984, is the only state-owned overseas employment agency under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
