Tangail sarees on the way to inclusion in UNESCO heritage list

This long-standing popular handloom industry is now in crisis due to rising raw material prices, low profits and competition from machine-made sarees. However, the nomination for inclusion in the UNESCO list of cultural heritage has sparked new hope among the weavers. With this recognition, the quality, market and future preservation of Tangail sarees can all be strengthened.
