Dr Md Jafar Uddin has been promoted to the position of senior secretary of Ministry of Commerce from a secretary.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday.
He previously served as secretary in charge of the Ministry of Youth & Sports and as Additional Secretary overseeing budget and macro-economic affairs in the Finance Ministry, where he also was deputy secretary and joint secretary.
He has served on the governing boards of Janata Bank Limited (the second-largest commercial bank in Bangladesh); Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd.; the Bangladesh Institute of Management; Petrobangla (the national oil company of Bangladesh); and the Institute of Public Finance.
He obtained a doctorate in business administration from the University of the East in Manila in 2008; an MA in Government Financial Management from the University of Ulster, United Kingdom in 2000; and a master's and bachelor's (honors) degrees in commerce from the University of Dhaka in 1983.
