The prominent business personality got the laurels for his outstanding contribution to the Bangladesh's banking sector, investment and employment generation, according to a press release issued by Apex on Monday.

Syed Manzur Elahi is the founding chairman of Mutual Trust Bank and Grey Advertising Bangladesh Ltd.

In addition, he currently serves as the founder chairman of 'Manusher Jonno Foundation,' Freedom Foundation, Pragati Foundation for Education and Development, chairman of East West University Board of Trustees, managing director of International Publications Limited and director of Central Depository Bangladesh Limited.

He also serves as a member of the Centre for Policy Dialogue and the Board of Trustees of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association.

In his reaction over receiving the ward Syed Manzur Elahi said, "Such international recognition will make me more accountable to my work. I had received honor from the organization before as well, but this year's recognition is special for me."

A total of ten UK residents, from a diverse range of industries, were honoured for their personal contributions and achievement, at the annual awards ceremony, the statement said.

The awards were meant for paying tribute to the invaluable impact of the Bangladeshi community on the British Economy.

Bajloor Rashid MBE, president of UKBCCI said of the awards: "Each year we aim to highlight the incredible impact of British Bangladeshis both here and internationally.

"We hope that the platform provided is used as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those that have worked hard to succeed and to build upon their success. Just as a beacon shines for others to follow."

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem, Rt Hon James Cleverly MP, Lord Karan Bilimoria,  Rushanara Ali MP, Paul Scully MP, Julian Knight MP, John Biggs, executive mayor, LB Tower Hamlets and The Worshipful Mayor of Croydon Cllr Humayun Kabir, among others, attended the event.
