Man held for assaulting Foodpanda deliveryman in Savar

Upon receiving a complaint through their official Facebook page, police have immediately arrested a man from the Bonpukul area of Savar for assaulting a deliveryman of Foodpanda – an online food delivery platform.

Md Shohel Rana, assistant inspector general (media and public relations) of police, said a police team arrested the accused named Shahidur Rahman Sujon – a resident of Bonpukul and personal assistant of a lawmaker – on Saturday afternoon.

According to the AIG, police received a video clip from an aware citizen that showed a delivery man of Foodpanda to be beaten up ruthlessly by a man.

The media and public relations wing of police took the complaint to its cognisance and directed the Savar police station to take prompt action in this regard.

AFM Sayed, officer-in-charge of Savar police station, sent a team to take care of the issue that later found the allegation authentic in primary interrogation.

They came to know that the deliveryman had been tortured when he refused to take the food item to an upper floor of the multistoried building fearing that his bicycle might be stolen.

But, it made Shujon angry and prompted him to beat the deliveryman up.

However, the incident came to light when a video clip of it went viral on social media platforms and drew a huge public outcry.
