Magura child rape: Victim in critical condition, doctors confirm signs of 'brutal torture'

The condition of the eight-year-old girl from Magura, who was raped by her sister's father-in-law last week, remains critical, said Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), today (8 March).
"She is on ventilator support. The child has wounds in her genitals due to brutal torture. Her throat injury is also severe," Asaduzzaman told The Business Standard this afternoon.
A medical board comprising doctors from the gynaecology and anaesthesiology departments has been formed to oversee her treatment.
As her condition deteriorated last night (7 March), she was transferred from the hospital's gynaecology department to the paediatric intensive care unit.
According to police and locals, the child was visiting her sister's in-laws' house. The accused, her sister's father-in-law, allegedly raped her while she was sleeping alone on Wednesday night.
Hearing her screams, family members and neighbours rushed in and found her critically injured. She was first taken to Magura General Hospital before being moved to Faridpur Medical College Hospital due to the severity of her condition.
The child was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state on Thursday evening. As of this morning, she has yet to regain consciousness.
The accused Hitu Sheikh was detained on Thursday.
Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station Md Ayub Ali on Friday confirmed the matter and said legal action against him was being taken.
