Liberia-flagged bulk carrier collides with anchored vessel at Ctg Port

A Liberia-flagged bulk carrier carrying around 35,350 tonnes of slag collided with a Bangladesh-flagged vessel anchored at Chattogram Port's Alpha Anchorage early today (16 August), with no casualties, water ingress or environmental pollution reported.
The incident occurred at around 12:35am when MV Anassa (IMO: 9590929), carrying 21 crew members, was entering the Alpha Anchorage amid strong currents, according to Syed Refayet Hamim, secretary and spokesperson of the Chattogram Port Authority.
During the incident, Anassa collided with the forward section of the anchored MV Zahab Jahan (IMO: 9217682), he said.

"Due to strong currents at the Alpha Anchorage, the entering bulk carrier MV Anassa collided with the forward section of the anchored MV Zahab Jahan," Syed Refayet Hamim said in a statement.
"There were no casualties, water ingress or environmental pollution. Immediately after the incident, both vessels safely separated and anchored again, and navigation is currently completely normal," he said.
All 21 crew members aboard the two vessels were safe, according to the port authority spokesperson.
Following the collision, both vessels were moved to a safe position for assessment.
The latest assessment found Anassa safely afloat, with no flooding or water ingress. There was also no report of oil or water leakage, and the vessel showed no signs of listing.
Its draft was recorded at 11.40 metres at the forward section, 11.45 metres amidships and 11.50 metres at the stern. A damage stability assessment found the vessel within safe limits.
The vessel's main engine, steering gear and various pumps were also checked and found operational, while its emergency systems remained functional.
Built in 2011 at Japan's Iwagi Shipbuilding, Anassa is 199.9 metres long and 32.24 metres wide. The vessel was previously named Neo Beechwood and IVS Beechwood.
Zahab Jahan, built in 2000, is a Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier measuring 189.83 metres in length and 31 metres in width.
The port authority said navigation at the port was continuing normally after the incident.
Further inspections will determine the extent of any structural damage to the two vessels and whether Anassa requires repairs before its next sea voyage.
