Lawyers today (17 November) staged a protest over alleged irregularities in the appointment of lawyers in the Faridpur District and Sessions Judge Court.

The protest programme, organised by a section of the District Lawyers Forum, was held at the District Bar Association building this afternoon.

The speakers alleged the list of appointments of government lawyers or counsels as PP, APP, GP, and AGP in the court included more than 10 cohorts of the previous fascist Sheikh Hasina government, which is a "betrayal of the blood of the students and people who were martyred during the July-August uprising."

They demanded the immediate cancellation of the appointments of these lawyers and the appointment of BNP-affiliated lawyers instead.

They threatened to take stronger action if their demands were not met.

The lawyers also announced that as part of today's programme, a human chain will be formed in front of the Bar Association building tomorrow, a memorandum will be submitted to the deputy commissioner, and a press conference will be held at the Faridpur Press Club.

Senior lawyers Advocate Abdul Hannan, Advocate Syed Rashedul Alam Tuhin, Advocate Hafizur Rahman Habib, Advocate Shamsunnahar, Advocate Meherunnessa Swapna, Advocate Nazrul Islam, Advocate Alamgir Bhuyan, Advocate Khsarul Alam, Advocate Year Ali, and others spoke at the event.
